87. “The Righteous Live in Me”
(The passing of a stalwart servant is never occasion for despair.)
We see, each day, our brothers’ pains,
In a garden world corrupt with lust.
And yet, outside the vile and vain,
Are valiant souls God loves and trusts.
Their time well spent, He calls them back,
To help Him spread His Gospel there.
Among the many who yet lack,
The saving faith that these held dear.
We see some who remain now weep,
In fear their loved ones are no more.
They cry and pine for those who “sleep,”
Despite the promise made before--
That righteous souls who leave this earth,
With faith and works their truest wealth,
Will find new life, a second birth,
In labors rich with heaven’s health.
So few may now with faith perceive,
The heavenly peace which fills the space
Where humble souls from sin made free,
Now live through Jesus’ name and grace.
Yet, joyful voices we will raise,
For we believe our Savior dear,
Is worthy of our greatest praise.
And in reply, we seem to hear:
“The righteous live in me.”
