69. May It Be Always So
I kneel in solitude tonight,
To thank the Father for His aid.
For through the struggles of the day,
I feel His peace, as if to say:
“I’m always there for you. ”
It was not always so.
Not long ago, (days I regret),
I trusted in my own frail arms.
Believing I knew more than God,
I spurned His help to fight the harms
That I must daily face.
I was so foolish then.
But Father cared for me enough,
(Despite my urge that I be “free”)
Before the price of pride came due,
He sent His Son to die for me,
And suffer for my sins.
How I regret His pain.
I now give thanks for trials that changed,
And taught me I have no true light.
I humbly seek the Savior’s way,
No longer trusting in my sight,
To find the truth that saves.
Christ is my light and life.
Before you too must face a price
Of suffering you need not pay.
I bid you learn from my mistakes:
First, seek forgiveness in God’s way,
Then, live as Jesus lived.
May it be always so.
