126. To See the Sun Again
The Trigger:
I may now confess this was inspired by the actual, grievous sickness of a neighbor's son. Having moved away, I can now relate the circumstances. She informed me one day that her son, in his 40s, had been put in the ICU for treatment of an unknown disease or condition which threatened his life--he could not keep down food and was quickly wasting away.
Immediately, I felt a powerful sense of concern and alarm. The words came to me: "Without divine intervention, he will never see the Sun again" I felt that unless we could enlist the prayers, faith, and good wishes of many others, he would die. Recording these verses quickly, I gave her multiple copies with my fervent hope that, if she found them having any merit, she share them and ask her relations and friends for constant pleadings on her son's behalf. I also placed his name on a local prayer roll.
He survived, although he had lost 1/3 of his former body weight. I still pray for his further recovery and still place his name on a prayer roll every two weeks.
126. To See the Sun Again
I
In the ICU, a grievously ill patient silently pleads for healing.
The lights are dimmed and quiet reins,
The nurses’ rounds are nearly through.
And yet, their care for me remains,
My every heart beat in their view.
I do not doubt their deep concern,
And sense, unheard, unspoken prayers,
They seek the same for which I yearn,
And my petition joins with theirs--
God, let me see the sun again.
II
Anxious doctors seek guidance and Heaven’s power
Each breath is charted, measured, logged,
Each tool of healing is employed.
Today’s “high tech” may leave us awed,
But it has yet to save this boy.
Now humbled, healers seek for grace,
That God will do what man cannot.
They humbly kneel in a private place,
With fervency they’d once forgot--
God, let him see the sun again.
III
His greatest mortal champion, his mother,
prays for Divine intervention
Though grown, he still remains “my child”,
A blessing bought with patience and pain.
Thy gift to me, thy “mercy mild”.
With a bond of love which will remain
Despite the tests of growth and years.
Dear God, who gave Thy only Son,
Please hear my cries and see my tears,
And let him end what’s well begun.
God, let him see the sun again.
IV
Jesus Christ, our intercessor with the Father,
asks for an honorable man’s life.
The lilies of the field are mine,
I know of every sparrow’s fall.
Ask not for signs, but trust in me,
Believe that God will hear my call.
I’ve felt your every grief and pain,
I’ve paid the price for every sin.
Though life shall end, I shall remain,
Your Savior, healer, truest friend.
You will yet see the sun again.

James 5:16
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
Doctrine and Covenants 45:1-5
1 Hearken, O ye people of my church, to whom the kingdom has been given; hearken ye and give ear to him who laid the foundation of the earth, who made the heavens and all the hosts thereof, and by whom all things were made which live, and move, and have a being.
2 And again I say, hearken unto my voice, lest death shall overtake you; in an hour when ye think not the summer shall be past, and the harvest ended, and your souls not saved.
3 Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him--
4 Saying: Father, behold the sufferings and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified;
5 Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life.
