137. Sisters of the Covenant, Daughters of God
[For “These Sisters” and those like them around the world.]
There is a meeting held each week
That I may not attend.
It’s a rather simple gathering,
Of some rather special friends.
You will find no Brothers in their midst,
And no children will be heard.
These are Sisters of the Covenant, (1)
And they meet to share God’s Word.
They waste no time in gossip,
They play no cards nor games.
They set aside their worldly cares,
And embrace much higher aims. (2)
Their hearts are fixed on Deity,
And God’s Kingdom on this earth.
Those eyes are “single to the Lord”
And their souls have wonderous worth. (3)
When the Lord gave us “Come, Follow Me”,
He asked us to inquire,
How Jesus’ newer Testament,
Might our own lives inspire.
And He gave, again, that promise,
Which these Faithful have shown true,
“When two or more meet in My Name,
There I will be with you.” (4)

1. LATTER-DAY SAINTS' MILLENNIAL STAR , December 11, 1941: “Men of this Church, who are true to the covenant and magnify their Priesthood, are called the Sons of God. Those outside the Church, who do not hearken to the voice of the Lord, are called the sons of men. Similarly, Sisters of the covenant, are the daughters of God; others, the daughters of men. In the days of Noah, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the fair daughters of the sons of Noah because these daughters married the sons of men.” [Emphasis supplied.]
2. D&C 25:10 "And verily I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better."
3. D&C 88:67 “And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth all things.”
4. Matt 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
TRIGGER AND CONTEXT:
Some time ago, a rather uncommon Relief Society President suggested group sessions for women, mostly single, who were able and interested to meet to better apply the current scriptural course of study to their lives. Those weekly sessions, which the brethren did not attend, were full of mirth, good will… and the Spirit. President Nelson’s introduction of “Come, Follow Me” this year has further refined the Sisters’ sessions. Promptings are shared, personal experiences related, and doctrines are discussed with an emphasis toward practical application. Scholarship mixes with service, as both needs and possible solutions to problems are explored.
My ministering companion and I have had occasion from time to time to make brief visits to bring treats or convey important bits of news about the needs and health issues of members of the Ward. What we always find is a literal and powerful application of the New Direction towards “Home Centered, Church Supported Worship”.
I was regretting that I could not consistently attend, but, as I pondered the matter, this poem wrote itself. The message I was prompted to share was a repetition of the theme of #122: Messiah has billions of “sisters”, but far fewer daughters. These Sisters, and those like them throughout the world, have been and remain, “The Daughters of the Lord” helping others along the covenant path in their journey toward the Tree of Life and its incomparable fruit—the love of God.
