129. "Despedida Ansiosa"

The Trigger:
Last Sunday’s Elders Quorum discussion centered on Elder Rasband’s Conference address, “Behold a Royal Army”.  We had a spirited and inspiring discussion as to the new, to some, collaborative efforts of High Priests and Elders.  In our little desert Ward, we had already combined both groups for most purposes. We were led by a highly experienced brother who informed us that he would leave with his wife to seek specialized medical attention for her in the East.  Deeming this family one of the valiant foundations of our Ward, I afterwards attempted to express my concern and good wishes.  I later believed my effort was clumsy.

Two days later, as I pondered the situation, and sought Divine aid for their trip, I was amazed to receive the following.  This was only the third Spanish poem I had ever received.  However, it's the first time I recorded a Spanish poem to a couple who do not speak or read Spanish.  At this time, it remains a “work in progress” because I must add accent marks; correct spelling; scrutinize punctuation; and generally refine the text.   I sent the draft to my brother, now on the opposite coast, and felt a sense of confidence that the Lord would aid him and his in their search for greater healing skill.

The Text:
[A work in progress]

                                                     “Despedida Ansiosa”
Despedida ya tan ansiosa.
Pedimos al Padre nuestro.
En el nombre del Hijo Amado.
Que vuelves ya pronto y sano.

Apreciamos viaje urgente
Buscando una cura completa.
De medico mas excelente.
Para mejorarle tu reina amada

Recordamos tu testimonio puro.
Atraves del Espiritu Santo.
Y lecciones que nos compartio.
Han sido de valor eterno.

Acordarte doquieura que vayas.
Y en qualquier circunstancias vives.
Tus hermanos levantan Oraciones.
En favor de familia querida.

                                  “Anxious Farewell”

We anxiously bid you farewell.
Praying to our Heavenly Father.
In the name of His Beloved Son.
That you soon return to us.

We appreciate the urgency of your trip.
Seeking an effectual cure.
From a superior physician.
To heal your beloved wife.

We recall your pure testimony.
Conveyed by the Holy Ghost.
And the lessons you have shared.
Have been blessings of eternal value.

Remember wherever you go.
And in whatever circumstances you live.
Your brothers raise their prayers.
On behalf of your beloved family.

The "Tender Mercy" Blessing:

Within an hour of sending the piece, I found, quite by accident, Number 130, "Between the Lines",  which I had completed--and then completely forgotten!  I was absolutely astonished that it "popped up" on a laptop I had never used for poetry before.  The version here is a major re-write (and it needs at least one more revision).

POSTSCRIPT:

The couple returned--joyful.  A New Jersey specialist diagnosed both (a) mercury poisoning and (b) two different parasites!  Having discovered the source of her dysfunctions, a plan of remediation was established, with hope and a reasonable medical certainty that this sister could remediate her decline.   Our Quorum brother bore testimony in our Sunday meeting of the Lord's interventions on their behalf, and thanked the brethren for their persistent kind wishes and fervent prayers.

I was happy to see, again, how a Priesthood Quorum could be more than the sum of its parts.  We pledged to continue our ministering labors for each other and those entrusted to us.

QUORUMS, and councils--just two of Deity's numerous potent tools for blessing the Saints.
