56. Passage and Pilot
I’ve come to find a great divide,
From where I am and where I’d be.
If I would stand by Father’s side,
What mighty changes must I see,
To win the battles I will face,
And be the man I’d like to be.
How much I want to cross that space,
Where order reigns and virtue rules.
How hard I strive to see God’s face,
While learning in this mortal school.
My life now seems so out of place,
I feel a stranger and a fool.
There is no way that I alone,
Can go from here to over there,
For now, this is my mortal home,
So filled with doubt and human care.
And while I dream of heaven’s scenes,
No earthly wish will take me there.
There is but One who’s life has served,
As passageway to God from man.
Christ is sole Pilot for our trip,
The loving heart of Father’s plan.
So of my Savior I implore,
To bridge, by grace, this awful span.

Helaman 3:27-30
“Thus we may see that the Lord is merciful unto all who will, in the sincerity of their hearts, call upon his holy name. Yea, thus we see that the gate of heaven is open unto all, even to those who will believe on the name of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God. Yea, we see that whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked. And land their souls, yea, their immortal souls, at the right hand of God in the kingdom of heaven, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and with Jacob, and with all our holy fathers, to go no more out.”
