13. Questions from Our Leaders
Step by step and day by day we live
To serve the risen Christ.
You have shared our joys and struggles
Throughout years of sacrifice.
This new challenge leaves us breathless,
And the burden leaves us weak.
So we ask your aid to help us fill,
A call we did not seek.
We will not forget the joy we knew
To have a prophet here.
And we felt the Father’s presence
As The Spirit filled the air.
We have pledged all that we have and are,
To what we now must do.
But as we begin these labors,
There are questions asked of you:
Have you sought a confirmation,
Of the rightness of our call?
If we ask you to assist Him,
Will you serve the Lord of all?
All have talents from the Father,
Do you hide yours in the ground?
Will you work and pray and love and sing
With saints the world around?
Do you brothers love your wives enough
To share with them Christ’s truth?
Or did your passion for the pure,
Depart with beauty’s youth?
Do you wives aid greying bridegrooms
In joint service for the Lord?
Do you each seek out some quiet place
To feast upon His word?
Have you made real the atonement?
Are you called by Jesus’ name?
Is the Savior at your center,
Or is life for wealth and fame?
Do you join us in the temple,
As we serve our kindred dead?
Or have your joys in sacred things,
Like morning’s dew, all fled?
Are you quick to share a rumor?
Do you wear a skeptic’s sneer?
Are your thoughts and acts in secret,
Just as if the Lord were near?
We are all the Father’s children,
Are you preaching of His Son?
Do you daily seek His Spirit
That all hearts might join as one?
Do you counsel with your bishops,
Or are we “the first to know?”
Do you visit with each other,
That the bonds of love will grow?
Are you praying with your children?
Do you teach them right from wrong?
Do they feel that even if they stray,
They always will belong?
Brothers, Sisters, we so love you,
And we think of you each day.
And we fast and plead for Father’s care
To keep you in His way.
Let us serve Him all together.
Let us seek the mind of Christ.
That when He comes to claim His own,
We're worth His sacrifice.
