1. His Kingdom to Prepare

1. His Kingdom to Prepare
In these last days we heard a call,
And left our homes, our friends, and all
We’d known of life, to seek His will.
We learned our Father would instill
Us with His perfect peace and light,
If we would labor with our might,
To testify of Christ.
To teach His sacrifice.
He lives! The Son of God!
We came so new, with untried hearts.
Oh, outwardly, we looked the part
And everywhere they said the same:
“Those Mormon youth all share first names,
And each has hair that's just too neat
And 'just shined’ shoes upon their feet ”
But deep inside we felt apart
From tested servants whose pure hearts
Had come to trust the Lord.
In time, we learned what they knew first.
For Him, our spirits had to thirst
To give our very best each day,
Help other children find His Way.
By serving with “might, mind, and soul”
We gave to Him our heart’s control.
That He would guide us every hour
And keep us with His loving power,
As servants, then as friends.
We knew He’d called us to this work.
We labored hard. We never shirked.
Each day we sought those He’d prepared,
Each night we prayed that He’d be there,
To tell our brothers of His love
And send the Spirit from above
To change their lives for good.
To live life as they should,
And strive to be like Him.
We never stopped to do His will,
And when we moved we labored still.
For every place had those in need,
So everywhere we planted seeds
Of truth His prophets had declared,
And found in every town prepared,
Some deeply thirsting souls.
Sometimes we’d see them grow
And yield a hundredfold.
And as we worked we felt His joy.
We came to know that every boy
Could hear Him just as well as we.
And every sister, too, could see
He sought for every child the same,
To share their burdens, bear His name
And earn His great reward.
All those who live His word,
Joint heirs with Christ, our King.
The months flew by, each faster still.
Each filled with joy, and sadness, till
We came to be like those before.
Whose trials made them somewhat more
Like their Heavenly Lord and Friend.
By humbly serving till the end
Of our brief stay in this fair land,
We came to better understand
Why He would die for us.
Our clothing’s frayed, our shoes are thin,
But how the Spirit burns within!
Too soon, we’ll leave this place we love,
No longer vested from above
With rights and powers only shared
By those with faith to come and dare
To live, to preach the Risen Christ,
And learn, in part, His sacrifice,
His Kingdom to prepare!

Doctrine & Covenants 1:17-23
“Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments;
And also gave commandments to others, that they should proclaim these things unto the world; and all this that it might be fulfilled, which was written by the prophets--
The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh--
But that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world;
That faith also might increase in the earth;
That mine everlasting covenant might be established;
That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.”
Doctrine & Covenants 93:45-46
"Verily, I say unto my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., or in other words, I will call you friends, for you are my friends, and ye shall have an inheritance with me--
"I called you servants for the world’s sake, and ye are their servants for my sake—"
