144. The Best of Father's Seed I've Known
.
[Eve]
So long before “my turn on Earth”,
I knew her in our Holy Home,
She was the best that Father bore,
She chose the best we had been shown.
And so it came as no surprise
That, of them all, she was the one
That Father sent to Earth to start
The latest world that He’d begun.
We watched, with awe, those heady days,
Of learning, naming—all things new.
She walked with God and Adam, both,
And shared their plans and lofty views.
And so it came as no surprise
That she would dare to start, anew,
That “fall” required for us all,
To prove to God our faith was true.
Oh yes, the best of Father’s seed I’ve known.
[Mary]
Millennia passed, how hard the wait,
Until the time arrived, at last.
Messiah would be born on Earth
To bring to pass God’s greatest task.
Of mortal mothers, she alone
Would bring to life the Chosen One.
Forever more her name we praise,
As virgin Mother of God’s Son.
We chafe that we must wait to see
How He was raised “from grace to grace”.
What virtues did she teach and learn
With family in that humble place.
We shared her wonder at His soul
Defined by perfect strength and love.
He was Our Father’s greatest gift,
That we might live with Him above.
Oh yes, the best of Father’s seed I’ve known.
[Leanore]
I was the last, her "number five”,
The most conceited, most distressed.
After her kindly daughters came,
I put her patience to the test.
Thank God the lessons that she learned
From earlier, gentler souls sufficed
To temper my impetuous will
And turn my heart to seek the Christ.
And while I cannot now recall
The countless lessons that she shared,
A tender sweetness yet remains,
Of all the times that she would bear
Me witness of our Savior’s love
And Father’s hope that I return
To share, together, for all time
That joy only the righteous earn.
Oh yes, the best of Father’s seed I’ve known.
